Alumni Amanda and Andrew Walker
As an independent Christian school with more than 30 years of history, Fort Bend Christian Academy has reached a point in time when alumni are enrolling their children into their alma mater.
The Walkers have three children, Autumn (age 7 - 1st grade), Olivia (age 5 - PreK) and Declan (age 6 months). "I cherish the memories of pep rallies, cheer camp and cheering on my high school sweetheart as he played soccer – this was back in the days before we had football," Amanda said. "Now I have been married to that high school sweetheart for 14 years, and we have three precious children, two of whom currently attend FBCA."
Why Alumni are Choosing FBCA for Their Children
Amanda said they chose to send their children to FBCA because they greatly value the connection and intimacy that are possible in a private school where class sizes are small and teachers have more time to truly know and care for each of their students.
"Autumn was diagnosed with Dyslexia last spring, and I am confident this was identified so early because of her small class size," Amanda said. "We also appreciate the emphasis on a Christian education. We love hearing the girls come home from school and retell Bible stories that they are learning about in the classroom. Last year Autumn retold the Parable of the Sower, including what it means, with great insight that I would not have expected from a Kindergartner. Olivia has a better understanding now of 'consequences' after learning about Adam and Eve in her PreK class."
Andrew is not officially an FBCA graduate, although he has a good reason: he left school one year early to attend Abilene Christian University with Amanda. ACU accepted him as a probationary student his first year contingent upon him completing his missing high school credits during that year and maintaining good grades for his college courses as well.
"In hindsight, I still can't believe his parents let their 17-year-old son move away from home to follow his high school girlfriend to college," Amanda said. "I think they felt comfortable with it because his Uncle was (and still is) a professor at ACU and his brother and cousin were already students there. It is a very unusual situation, and I like to joke that I married a high school drop out . . . who has a Master's degree."
Amanda Clarke Walker graduated from FBCA in 2001 is currently an Accounting Manager at BMC Software. Andrew Walker also attended FBCA and received a master's degree from UH. He is currently a Senior Manager at Deloitte Tax.
